Role Context

The General Technician helps keep Novotel and Adagio Premium Dubai Al Barsha safe, comfortable, and fully operational by maintaining the technical systems used by guests, employees, kitchens, public areas, and back-of-house departments. The role requires broad maintenance knowledge and a responsive approach to both planned work and unexpected breakdowns. Reliable repairs and accurate inspections will reduce downtime, control maintenance costs, protect equipment life, and support consistent guest satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled inspections of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, lighting, mechanical, and kitchen equipment.
• Identify developing faults before they result in equipment failure or service disruption.
• Diagnose technical problems and complete practical repairs within approved safety and maintenance procedures.
• Respond promptly to emergency maintenance requests in guest rooms, public areas, kitchens, offices, and operational spaces.
• Repair leaking fixtures, blocked drains, faulty switches, damaged lighting, minor electrical connections, and mechanical components.
• Check air-conditioning performance and report major refrigeration or control-system faults requiring specialist attention.
• Assist with equipment installation, setup, testing, adjustment, and calibration.
• Follow manufacturer instructions when commissioning or maintaining technical systems.
• Prepare and implement preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment and facilities.
• Record inspection results, repairs, replaced parts, pending work, and equipment performance accurately.
• Update work orders and maintenance logs after completing each task.
• Monitor recurring faults and recommend corrective actions that reduce repeat breakdowns.
• Maintain tools, test instruments, ladders, workshop equipment, and personal protective gear in safe condition.
• Follow electrical isolation, lockout, fire safety, chemical handling, and accident-prevention procedures.
• Check work areas for hazards and install suitable warning signs or barriers when required.
• Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, water leaks, electrical risks, and structural concerns immediately.
• Coordinate repair timing with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and Beverage, Security, and other departments.
• Enter occupied guest areas professionally and protect furniture, belongings, finishes, and flooring during maintenance.
• Explain repair progress politely when interacting with guests.
• Minimize noise, dust, access restrictions, and operational disruption during technical work.
• Provide basic guidance to hotel employees on safe equipment use and simple troubleshooting.
• Support contractors and specialist technicians during inspections, servicing, and major repairs.
• Verify that completed contractor work meets operational and safety requirements.
• Assist in maintaining suitable spare parts and commonly used maintenance materials.
• Report low stock levels and provide accurate requirements for replacement components.
• Participate in routine safety inspections and support compliance with applicable facility regulations.
• Keep workshops, plant rooms, storage spaces, and assigned work areas clean and organized.
• Support energy-saving measures by identifying inefficient equipment, leaks, and unnecessary consumption.
• Work flexible shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts according to hotel requirements.
• Perform additional engineering and maintenance duties assigned by the supervisor.

Ideal Profile

The preferred candidate holds a high school qualification or equivalent education. Technical training or certification in electrical work, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical maintenance, or facilities operations would be an advantage. Applicants should have practical experience in general maintenance within a hotel, commercial building, serviced residence, hospital, shopping centre, or similar facility. Strong working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, lighting, mechanical, and kitchen systems is required. The candidate should be able to diagnose routine faults, use common maintenance tools, and follow technical instructions accurately. The role requires good problem-solving ability, careful organization, and confidence working independently when urgent repairs arise. Clear communication is essential when coordinating with guests, employees, supervisors, contractors, and other departments. Candidates must be physically capable of lifting equipment, climbing ladders, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and working safely in different maintenance environments. Basic computer skills are required for work orders, records, and internal communication.
