Job summary

Parsons Corporation is seeking an experienced Material Inspector to verify delivered and installed materials against approved sources, technical specifications, inspection plans, and contract requirements for roads, bridges, concrete structures, utilities and infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will have a technical diploma or degree in construction/materials/engineering with several years of inspection experience, strong knowledge of testing procedures, and the ability to read drawings

Qualifications

  • Technical diploma or degree in construction, materials, engineering or related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant inspection experience.
  • Civil Engineering degree holders should have a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Practical experience on roads, bridges, concrete structures, utilities or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction materials, sampling procedures and field testing practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret working drawings, technical specifications, method statements and inspection and test plans.
  • Experience witnessing contractor and third‑party laboratory testing.
  • Knowledge of material approvals, supplier documentation, certificates and quality records.
  • Ability to enforce project specifications and approved construction requirements.
  • Familiarity with quality assurance, quality control, non‑conformance reporting and corrective action procedures.
  • Competence in reviewing material delivery records and matching products against approved sources.
  • Ability to maintain accurate inspection, testing and acceptance documentation.
  • Strong computer literacy and confidence using reporting, document control and project management systems.
  • Good written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills when coordinating with engineers, inspectors, contractors, laboratories and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect materials delivered to the construction site before acceptance or use.
  • Confirm that supplied materials match approved manufacturers, sources, technical submittals and material approvals.
  • Supervise site sampling and testing activities for roads, bridges, concrete, utilities and related civil works.
  • Witness laboratory tests and in‑situ tests performed by contractors or approved third‑party laboratories.
  • Prepare, label, seal and document material samples for testing.
  • Verify sample identification, chain of custody, test frequency and laboratory submission records.
  • Coordinate with the responsible Work Inspector to confirm that completed work is ready for testing.
  • Discuss questionable materials, failed results and areas of concern with engineers and inspection personnel.
  • Perform sampling and testing efficiently to avoid unnecessary disruption to contractor operations.
  • Review inspection and test plans, method statements, specifications, drawings and approved material submissions.
  • Confirm that testing procedures comply with project requirements and recognised standards.
  • Monitor concrete sampling, slump testing, cube preparation, curing and compressive strength testing.
  • Inspect aggregates, asphalt materials, soil, backfill, reinforcement, pipes, precast elements and other construction products.
  • Check storage conditions to prevent contamination, damage, deterioration or incorrect material use.
  • Verify batch numbers, delivery tickets, certificates, test reports and manufacturer documentation.
  • Record accepted, rejected, quarantined or conditionally approved materials.
  • Report non‑conforming materials and assist with corrective action follow‑up.
  • Maintain testing logs, inspection records, material registers, photographs and supporting documentation.
  • Review laboratory results and promptly raise failed or abnormal findings.
  • Support the Senior Work Inspector and Senior Materials Engineer with material reviews and acceptance activities.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control inspections across the project.
  • Coordinate retesting or replacement when materials do not satisfy specified requirements.
  • Confirm that only approved materials are incorporated into permanent works.
  • Assist with audits of testing laboratories, storage areas, batching facilities and material suppliers.
  • Generate clear inspection reports and provide current testing information to the project team.
  • Use project software and digital systems to maintain records, access technical information and track approvals.
  • Perform other inspection and quality responsibilities appropriate to the assigned project scope.
