Material Inspection Responsibilities

The Material Inspector will monitor construction materials from delivery through sampling, testing, and acceptance. Working alongside inspection and materials engineering personnel, the role helps ensure that materials incorporated into the project comply with approved sources, specifications, drawings, and quality requirements.

• Supervise material sampling and testing activities carried out on site.
• Witness laboratory tests and in-situ tests performed by contractors or third-party testing organizations.
• Prepare and coordinate material samples for required testing.
• Work with the responsible Work Inspector to confirm that relevant works are approved and ready for testing.
• Discuss material quality concerns and testing requirements with the inspection team.
• Conduct sampling and testing efficiently to minimize unnecessary disruption to contractor operations.
• Regularly inspect materials delivered to site for conformity with approved sources and suppliers.
• Verify that materials used in construction comply with applicable project requirements and specifications.
• Participate in project Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities.
• Support the Senior Work Inspector - Materials and Senior Materials Engineer with material reviews, approvals, testing, and acceptance.
• Maintain accurate information and records relating to inspection and testing activities.

What Required Skills You 'LL Bring

• Bachelor 's Degree in a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in similar work; or a Civil Engineering degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• Relevant experience involving roads, bridges, concrete, and utilities projects.
• Ability to read and understand working drawings.
• Ability to interpret project specifications, Inspection and Test Plans, and method statements.
• Capability to enforce applicable specifications and contract drawings during material inspection activities.
• Understanding of construction material sampling, testing, inspection, and acceptance processes.
• Computer literacy and ability to use technology to access project data, maintain records, and prepare reports.
• Ability to work with project-specific engineering and construction software where required.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate with the wider project team.

Materials QA-QC Focus

The role provides an important quality-control function by verifying that materials delivered to and used on site meet approved project requirements. This involves checking material sources, witnessing laboratory and field tests, reviewing compliance against technical specifications, and supporting formal material acceptance activities.
