Role Context
The Materials Inspector will act as a key quality checkpoint between approved technical submissions and the products incorporated into construction. Covering roads, bridges, tunnels, utilities, concrete structures, and steelwork, the inspector will ensure that materials remain traceable and meet project specifications and authority requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Confirm that construction activities follow approved drawings, specifications, codes, and material requirements.
- Perform daily inspections, sampling, and testing of construction materials at the project site.
- Verify delivered products against approved submittals, certificates, delivery records, and traceability documents.
- Reject non-conforming materials and issue clear reports for further technical action.
- Conduct or witness testing of soil, aggregates, asphalt, concrete, steel, water, and utility materials.
- Follow approved inspection and test plans when witnessing field and laboratory procedures.
- Inspect materials used in roadworks, concrete structures, reinforcement, bridges, tunnels, and utility networks.
- Check storage conditions, handling methods, identification, and protection within stockyards and warehouses.
- Process inspection requests and maintain accurate records of their approval status.
- Update sampling registers, material inspection records, test logs, observation notes, and non-conformance documentation.
- Coordinate inspection activities with the Materials Engineer, site engineers, safety personnel, quality teams, and laboratories.
- Supply verified inspection information for daily and weekly progress reports.
- Maintain detailed records of contractor work completed on a day-work basis.
- Participate actively in site health and safety matters under the direction of the Assistant Resident Engineer.
- Communicate professionally and firmly with contractors when correcting material or workmanship deficiencies.
Ideal Profile
- Candidates should hold a diploma or bachelor 's degree in civil engineering, construction technology, materials engineering, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of seven years of materials inspection experience is required, including at least five years on infrastructure projects and two years in the United Arab Emirates or wider Gulf region.
- Practical experience with field and laboratory testing of concrete, asphalt, soil, aggregates, steel, and utility materials is essential.
- Applicants must be able to interpret engineering drawings, technical submittals, mill certificates, laboratory results, and inspection documentation.
- Approval as a Materials Inspector from Dubai Municipality or the Roads and Transport Authority is preferred.
- Experience on major Dubai road, bridge, tunnel, or utility projects will provide a strong advantage.
