Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive gastroenterology consultations and detailed clinical assessments.
• Diagnose and manage disorders affecting the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and biliary system.
• Treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, peptic ulcer disease, and gastrointestinal infections.
• Manage patients with acute and chronic liver disease, fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, and related complications.
• Diagnose and treat acute and chronic pancreatitis and other pancreatic disorders.
• Assess and manage upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding, including emergency stabilization and endoscopic intervention.
• Provide inpatient consultations, outpatient clinics, follow‑up care, and long‑term disease monitoring.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy.
• Conduct colonoscopy for screening, diagnosis, surveillance, biopsy, and therapeutic intervention.
• Perform polypectomy, tissue sampling, bleeding control, dilation, and other endoscopic procedures within the consultant's approved scope.
• Assess patients before endoscopy and review medical history, medications, allergies, laboratory results, and procedural risks.
• Develop individualized investigation, treatment, and follow‑up plans based on clinical findings and evidence‑based guidelines.
• Interpret endoscopic findings, pathology reports, imaging studies, liver function tests, and other diagnostic investigations.
• Identify patients who may benefit from advanced endoscopic procedures and coordinate appropriate referral or treatment.
• Collaborate with general surgeons, colorectal surgeons, hepatobiliary specialists, radiologists, oncologists, pathologists, and dietitians.
• Participate in multidisciplinary discussions for complex gastrointestinal, liver, pancreatic, and oncology cases.
• Provide culturally appropriate consultations and communicate clearly with Arabic‑speaking patients and families.
• Explain diagnoses, treatment options, endoscopic procedures, potential risks, expected outcomes, and follow‑up requirements.
• Educate patients regarding digestive health, nutrition, medication adherence, preventive screening, and lifestyle modification.
• Promote colorectal cancer screening, liver disease prevention, and early detection of gastrointestinal malignancies.
• Obtain informed consent before procedures and maintain professional confidentiality throughout patient care.
• Monitor treatment response and revise management plans according to clinical progress and diagnostic findings.
• Maintain accurate consultation notes, procedure reports, treatment plans, consent records, and discharge summaries.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention, endoscopy safety, medication management, and patient identification protocols.
• Follow applicable UAE healthcare regulations, DOH requirements, hospital policies, and international gastroenterology standards.
• Participate in clinical audits, morbidity reviews, quality improvement projects, and departmental governance activities.
• Contribute to teaching, departmental meetings, continuing medical education, and professional training programs.
• Maintain current knowledge of gastroenterology, hepatology, therapeutic endoscopy, and digestive disease management.

Qualifications

• Medical degree such as MBBS, MD, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Completed specialist training in Internal Medicine followed by accredited subspecialty training in Gastroenterology.
• Board certification or fellowship in Gastroenterology from a recognized professional authority.
• Valid UAE consultant license or eligibility to obtain the appropriate professional license.
• DOH Consultant License or Eligibility Letter in Gastroenterology is required for practice at the employing facility in AlAin.
• Minimum 5-7 years of post-board consultant experience in Gastroenterology.
• Previous experience in a reputable hospital, tertiary-care center, or specialist healthcare institution.
• Strong expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy.
• Extensive experience managing gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and pancreatic disorders.
• Experience in hepatology and the management of chronic liver diseases is strongly preferred.
• Exposure to advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures would be advantageous.
• Ability to interpret gastrointestinal imaging, pathology, laboratory investigations, and endoscopic findings.
• Fluency in spoken and written Arabic is mandatory.
• Professional English communication ability is preferred.
• Strong clinical judgment, procedural skills, leadership, and complication management abilities.
