Role Context

The Consultant Gastroenterologist will provide comprehensive specialist care for patients presenting with acute and chronic conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and associated digestive systems. The position combines outpatient consultation, inpatient management, diagnostic evaluation, endoscopic intervention, long-term disease monitoring, and preventive counseling. By integrating clinical findings with laboratory investigations, imaging, and endoscopy results, the consultant will help establish accurate diagnoses and individualized treatment pathways.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage disorders affecting the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, and wider digestive system.
• Treat conditions including gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, and other gastrointestinal disorders.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy and colonoscopy according to established clinical indications.
• Evaluate patients with abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, altered bowel habits, unexplained digestive symptoms, and chronic gastrointestinal disease.
• Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnosis, disease severity, investigation findings, and patient requirements.
• Monitor response to treatment and adjust medication, procedural, dietary, or follow-up strategies when necessary.
• Provide specialist management for hepatology cases and chronic liver conditions within the consultant 's clinical scope.
• Interpret laboratory findings, endoscopic results, pathology reports, and relevant radiological investigations.
• Coordinate complex patient care with surgeons, radiologists, dietitians, internal medicine physicians, and other specialists.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medication adherence, digestive health, nutrition preventive care, and lifestyle modification.
• Maintain complete and accurate medical records in accordance with DHA requirements and hospital protocols.
• Participate in departmental meetings, clinical audits, patient safety programs, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing medical education.
• Supervise junior medical staff and provide clinical guidance when required.
• Support evidence-based gastroenterology practice and appropriate use of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
