Head of Solution Design – Generative AI Platform
Role Overview
As the Head of Customer Solution Design, you will lead the strategic direction, operational management, and delivery excellence of the technical solutions function within a fast-paced, innovative AI company. This executive role is critical to ensuring our generative AI platform seamlessly integrates with client environments, drives adoption, and delivers measurable value for our customers.
You will oversee a multidisciplinary team of technical professionals, providing leadership and guidance as they deliver complex integrations and implementations across diverse enterprise environments. Your mandate is to drive technical enablement, foster innovation, and ensure the highest standards of customer satisfaction and operational performance.
Location: Full-time, on-site at our Hazelwood, Pretoria office
Travel: Required for key customer engagements and stakeholder meetings
Strategic Technical Leadership
- Set the vision and roadmap for the Technical Solutions department in alignment with company goals.
- Build and maintain deep technical understanding of customer platforms and integration landscapes (e.g., Salesforce, Oracle, WordPress).
- Direct the evaluation and selection of integration strategies, including APIs, plugins, and native solutions, balancing speed and scalability.
- Oversee feasibility assessments and risk analyses, ensuring that recommendations are robust, pragmatic, and actionable.
Operational Excellence & Delivery
- Lead the successful delivery of complex, end-to-end AI solution implementations in enterprise client environments.
- Ensure best-in-class technical delivery standards across authentication, database synchronization, API integration, and platform configuration.
- Champion operational rigor, driving the creation and continuous improvement of technical documentation, implementation playbooks, and customer-specific configurations.
- Establish performance metrics, track KPIs, and report on department progress to executive leadership.
Team Development & Stakeholder Management
- Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performance technical solutions team with a focus on learning agility and problem-solving.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Serve as the executive point of contact for key technical escalations and high-stakes customer engagements.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams (product, engineering, sales) and external stakeholders to support mutual business objectives.
Executive Profile & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Track record of technical leadership within a high-growth SaaS, AI, or enterprise software environment.
- Deep expertise in systems integration, API strategies, and cloud technologies (Azure, AWS).
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams through ambiguity, high-pressure situations, and rapid change.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for executive and non-technical audiences.
- Outstanding communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with enterprise platforms (Salesforce, Oracle) and CMS environments (WordPress, Shopify).
- Knowledge of database technologies such as PostgreSQL, with hands-on or oversight experience in database design and optimization.
- Familiarity with authentication frameworks (Auth0, Azure AD) and modern DevOps practices.
- Project management experience (Agile, PMP, or similar certification) is an advantage.
