Job summary
A leading recruitment firm seeks a Procurement Specialist focused on renewable energy projects. This role involves managing procurement processes, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with governance standards. Candidates should have at least 3 years of experience in procurement within the renewable energy sector and strong analytical skills. Excellent communication and negotiation abilities are essential. This position is based in South Africa, Wes-Kaap.

As a Procurement Specialist, you will be at the forefront of sourcing and securing critical contracts and equipment for renewable energy projects across solar, wind, hydro, and battery storage technologies. Your role is pivotal in ensuring efficient, ethical, and sustainable procurement practices that drive project success, optimize costs, and strengthen supplier partnerships.
- Procurement Leadership: Own procurement workstreams during project development and transaction phases, from drafting RFPs to evaluating proposals and finalizing contracts.
- Contract Negotiation: Support negotiations with EPC contractors, BOP contractors, OEMs, and equipment suppliers to secure favorable commercial terms.
- Compliance & Governance: Ensure strict adherence to company policies, governance principles, and international standards (ESMS, IFC, Equator Principles).
- Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to guarantee quality, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
- Market Intelligence: Track industry trends, regulatory changes, and technological innovations to identify new suppliers and cost-saving opportunities.
- Cost Optimization: Lead initiatives to reduce costs through pricing analysis, alternative sourcing, and inventory optimization.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with project managers, engineers, and finance teams to align procurement strategies with project goals.
- Sustainability & Ethics: Champion responsible sourcing, supplier diversity, and compliance with environmental and social standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or Law.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and related analytical tools.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years in Procurement, Sales, Engineering, or Construction.
- Minimum 3 years in the renewable energy sector.
- Strong background in contract and commercial management.
- Proven negotiation experience.
- Familiarity with Power Purchase Agreements, EPC, and O&M contracts.
- Knowledge of solar, wind, hydro, and battery storage technologies.
