Placements24 is recruiting a Sommelier and Wine Director for a renowned Stellenbosch fine dining establishment. You will curate and manage an exceptional wine program.

Based in Stellenbosch, you will oversee cellar operations, staff training, tasting events, and vendor relationships while maintaining top service standards.

The role requires global wine knowledge, an excellent palate, and a passion for pairing that elevates dining experiences.

Qualifications

• Formal sommelier certification preferred.
• 4–6 years in a senior wine role in hospitality.
• Extensive knowledge of global wine regions and pairings.

Responsibilities

• Curate and manage an extensive wine list with regional representation.
• Oversee cellar operations including inventory and ordering.
• Conduct regular wine tastings and quality evaluations.
• Educate staff on varietals, regions, tasting notes and pairings.
• Provide expert wine recommendations and personalized service.
• Develop wine pairing menus and host tasting events.
• Manage vendor relationships and negotiate pricing.
• Ensure compliance with liquor laws and responsible service.
• Stay updated on wine trends and new producers.
• Contribute to guest experience through wine knowledge.
