Placements24 in Stellenbosch is seeking an experienced sommelier to lead the wine program and deliver exceptional service in a renowned winery setting. You will curate the wine list, manage cellar operations, and train staff to ensure superior guest experiences.

You will work closely with the Head Chef on food and wine pairings, maintain supplier relationships, and drive revenue through thoughtful wine service and education for guests.

Qualifications

• 4+ years as sommelier or senior wine-focused role in hospitality.
• Extensive knowledge of SA and international wines, regions and varietals.
• Excellent palate and tasting abilities.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Experience in inventory control and cost management.
• Staff training in wine service.
• A passion for wine and outstanding guest service.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

About the Role

This role is central to delivering an exceptional dining experience, focusing on curating and managing the extensive wine list, and providing expert wine service to guests. The ideal candidate will possess a deep knowledge of wines, exceptional tasting skills, and a talent for recommending the perfect pairings to complement the restaurant's exquisite cuisine. You will be responsible for cellar management, staff training on wine service, and ensuring the wine program consistently meets the highest standards of excellence. Key Responsibilities

• Manage wine inventory, including stock levels, ordering, receiving, and cellar organization.

Requirements

• Certification from a recognized wine education body (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET) is highly desirable.
• Exceptional palate and tasting abilities.
