Job summary

Placements24 in Stellenbosch is seeking an experienced sommelier to lead the wine program and deliver exceptional service in a renowned winery setting. You will curate the wine list, manage cellar operations, and train staff to ensure superior guest experiences.

You will work closely with the Head Chef on food and wine pairings, maintain supplier relationships, and drive revenue through thoughtful wine service and education for guests.

Qualifications

• 4+ years as sommelier or senior wine-focused role in hospitality.
• Extensive knowledge of SA and international wines, regions and varietals.
• Excellent palate and tasting abilities.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
• Experience in inventory control and cost management.
• Staff training in wine service.
• A passion for wine and outstanding guest service.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Develop, manage and curate the restaurant's wine list.
• Manage wine inventory, stock levels, ordering and cellar organization.
• Provide expert wine recommendations to guests based on preferences.
• Conduct wine tastings and training sessions for staff.
• Ensure proper wine storage, service temperature and glassware.
• Collaborate with Head Chef on wine-food pairings.
• Maintain relationships with suppliers and explore new vintages.
• Oversee wine service standards across all shifts.
• Contribute to the overall dining experience.
