Placements24 seeks a knowledgeable Sommelier for a prestigious Stellenbosch wine estate. You will curate the wine list, advise guests on pairings, and lead wine education for staff to enhance dining experiences.

Certification from recognized bodies (Court of Master Sommeliers or WSET Level 3+), 4+ years in a senior wine role, and deep SA/international wine knowledge are essential. Competitive salary and staff wine discounts offered.

Qualifications

• Certification from a recognized sommelier association (Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 3+).
• Minimum 4 years of experience as a Sommelier or in a senior wine-focused role.
• Extensive knowledge of international and South African wines, including varietals, regions, and producers.
• Excellent palate, tasting skills, and understanding of food and wine pairing principles.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to engage guests effectively.
• Experience in wine inventory management and cellar operations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the restaurant's wine list, ensuring a diverse and high-quality selection.
• Provide expert wine recommendations and pairings to guests during dining experiences.
• Manage wine inventory, including purchasing, storage, and cellar organization.
• Conduct staff training sessions on wine knowledge, service standards, and pairings.
• Oversee the proper service of wine, ensuring optimal temperature and glassware.
• Stay abreast of global wine trends and new vintages.
