Placements24 is seeking a proactive Telecommunications Field Technician to join our installation and maintenance team in Benoni. You will install, configure, troubleshoot, and repair telecom equipment to ensure reliable network connectivity for clients in Gauteng.

The role requires strong technical acumen in telecom systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to provide on-site service and support across client sites within the region.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Telecommunications Technician or Network Installer.
• Solid understanding of TCP/IP, structured cabling, and telecommunications hardware.
• Certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Fiber Optic Association are strong assets.

Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling systems.
• Configure and deploy routers, switches, and access points.
• Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues and equipment malfunctions.
• Perform preventative maintenance and system checks.
• Read and interpret network diagrams and technical specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, terminate, and test copper and fiber optic cabling systems for voice and data networks.
• Configure and deploy telecommunications equipment, including routers, switches, and access points.
• Diagnose and resolve network connectivity issues, signal degradation, and equipment malfunctions.
• Perform preventative maintenance and system checks to ensure network stability and performance.
• Read and interpret network diagrams , blueprints, and technical specifications.
• Provide end-user support and training on the use of telecommunications systems and services.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Telecommunications Technician or Network Installer.
• Solid understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP), structured cabling, and telecommunications hardware.
• Proficiency with testing equipment such as OTDRs, cable testers, and network analyzers.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and respond to service calls in a timely manner.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+, Fiber Optic Association) are a strong asset.
