Placements24 is seeking an experienced Subsurface Safety Engineer to join a fully remote team. You will design and manage safety systems for subsurface oil & gas operations, ensuring integrity of SSVs and ESD, and performing risk analyses and incident investigations.

Requirements include a mechanical or petroleum engineering degree with 6+ years in subsurface safety roles, expertise in safety cases, and ability to collaborate with global teams while complying with API/ISO standards.

About the Role

Our client, a key contributor to the Oil & Gas industry, is seeking an experienced Subsurface Safety Engineer to join their remote team. This fully remote position allows you to leverage your expertise in designing, implementing, and managing safety systems for subsurface oil and gas operations from anywhere. You will be responsible for ensuring the integrity and functionality of safety-critical equipment such as subsurface safety valves (SSVs), emergency shutdown systems (ESD), and related controls. Your work will involve detailed risk assessments, failure analysis, and the development of strategies to prevent catastrophic failures and protect personnel and the environment. This role requires a deep understanding of wellbore mechanics, fluid dynamics, material science, and relevant safety standards. We are looking for a highly analytical and safety-focused professional who can thrive in a remote work environment and collaborate effectively with global engineering teams. Your contributions are critical to maintaining the highest safety standards in our client's operations.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in subsurface safety engineering, well integrity, or related roles within the Oil & Gas industry.
• In-depth knowledge of subsurface safety devices, ESD systems, and their operational principles.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and safety case development.
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and recommended practices for well safety.
• Experience with failure analysis and incident investigation techniques.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a remote, multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering software and simulation tools.
• Must be eligible to work remotely from South Africa or a comparable location.
