Job summary

Vineyard Home in Cape Town is seeking a Chief Steward to supervise daily stewarding operations, ensuring cleanliness and safety across BOH areas. You will lead a team, manage stock and HACCP adherence, and coordinate support for F&B events in a high-standard hotel environment.

The role requires 2–3 years in stewarding with supervisory experience and relevant HACCP training. A Matric and a hospitality certificate are preferred, with a focus on quality and safety in a dynamic setting.

Qualifications

• Matric.
• Hospitality or Facilities Services certificate or similar vocational training.
• Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in stewarding, housekeeping, or back-of-house cleaning operations within a hotel or hospitality environment.
• At least 1 year in a supervisory or team-leading role preferred.
• HACCP / Food Safety and Health & Safety training highly advantageous.
• Satisfactory criminal record, subject to assessment of the nature, severity, relevance, and recency of any offence.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily stewarding operations to ensure HACCP, health and safety standards are met and teams follow procedures.
• Deliver consistently high standards of cleanliness in kitchens, wash-up areas, stores, service stations, and BOH facilities.
• Support restaurant, kitchen, banqueting and event operations by ensuring a continuous supply of clean crockery and equipment.
• Allocate tasks, train staff, coach, and monitor attendance and performance to maintain productivity and discipline.
• Monitor use, cleaning, storage and maintenance of stewarding equipment, minimising breakages and waste.
• Control cleaning chemicals, PPE, and consumables with safe storage and stock reporting.
