About the Role

You will be responsible for curating the wine list, managing the wine cellar, and conducting engaging wine tastings and educational sessions. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an exceptional and diverse wine list, reflecting the winery's portfolio and regional focus.
• Manage all aspects of the wine cellar, including inventory, storage, and stock rotation.
• Provide expert wine recommendations to guests in the restaurant and tasting room.
• Conduct engaging and informative wine tastings and educational sessions for guests and staff.
• Train restaurant staff on wine knowledge, service standards, and upselling techniques.
• Maintain strong relationships with wine suppliers and distributors.
• Ensure compliance with all liquor licensing regulations.
• Manage wine expenses and contribute to the profitability of the wine program.
• Stay current with global wine trends, regions, and producers.
• Contribute to marketing efforts related to wine experiences and events.

Requirements

• A recognized Sommelier qualification (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET Level 3 or higher) or equivalent extensive experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Sommelier or in a senior wine-focused role within the hospitality industry.
• In-depth knowledge of South African wines, as well as international wine regions.
• Exceptional palate and sensory evaluation skills.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to educate and engage diverse audiences about wine.
• Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
• Must be fluent in English; Afrikaans proficiency is a strong advantage.
• Must be legally authorized to work in **South Africa** and reside in or near **Stellenbosch**.
