Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Lead Wind Turbine Technician for our Cape Town operations to oversee installation, maintenance, and repair of wind turbines. You will lead a team of technicians, ensure safety procedures, and drive reliability and performance across sites.

The role requires 6+ years of wind turbine experience, with proven leadership, and familiarity with major manufacturers. Travel to various sites in the Cape Town region is expected; a strong safety mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years proven experience as a Wind Turbine Technician
• At least 2 years in a lead or supervisory role
• In-depth knowledge of wind turbine systems (gearbox, generator, control, pitch)
• Experience with major manufacturers (Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, GE)
• Ability to read technical manuals, schematics and P&IDs
• Strong safety mindset and familiarity with lockout/tagout procedures
• Willingness to travel to sites within the Cape Town region
• Ability to work at heights and in variable weather

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate a team of wind turbine technicians
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on turbines
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic issues and repair as needed
• Ensure work follows safety procedures and industry best practices
• Interpret manuals, blueprints, and schematics for maintenance
• Operate turbine servicing tools and equipment including cranes
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and parts inventory
• Train and mentor junior technicians
• Collaborate with engineering and operations to improve reliability
• Respond to emergency call-outs and troubleshoot faults
