About the Role

Our client, a leading international engineering and design consultancy, is seeking a highly qualified Senior Transportation Planning Engineer to bolster their team in Randburg, Gauteng . This critical role focuses on the strategic planning and development of transportation networks, encompassing roads, public transit, and active transportation modes. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of transportation modeling, demand forecasting, policy analysis, and the integration of sustainable transportation solutions. You will lead complex planning studies, engage with diverse stakeholders including government agencies and community groups, and contribute to the strategic vision of future mobility. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of comprehensive transportation plans, including regional, corridor, and site-specific studies.
• Conduct traffic demand modeling and forecasting using industry-standard software.
• Analyze existing transportation systems and identify areas for improvement and expansion.
• Develop strategies for enhancing public transport efficiency, cycling, and pedestrian infrastructure.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and policy recommendations.
• Engage with clients, government authorities, and the public to gather input and communicate findings.
• Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources for transportation planning projects.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior planning engineers and analysts.
• Stay current with emerging trends in transportation planning, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), and smart mobility.

Requirements

• BEng/BSc or MEng/MSc in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field.
• Professional registration (e.g., Pr Eng, Pr Planning) is advantageous.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in transportation planning and analysis.
• Proficiency in transportation modeling software (e.g., TransCAD, Cube, PTV Vissim/Visum, SATURN) and GIS.
• Strong understanding of South African transportation policies, legislation, and planning frameworks.
• Experience in public stakeholder engagement and facilitating workshops.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and manage complex planning assignments.
