Job summary

Rheinmetall Denel Munitions in Potchefstroom, South Africa, seeks a Senior Technical Buyer to drive sourcing, RFQs and price evaluations, and to negotiate multiyear contracts for strategic programs. This role manages supplier qualification, contracts/SLA finalization and ongoing contract governance.

The ideal candidate holds a B Comm. or B Tech degree with 5+ years in procurement, including management experience in a technical/mechanical environment, and strong negotiation and SAP/MS Office

• Technical qualification advantageous.
• At least 5 years’ procurement experience with at least 3 years on management level.
• At least 5 years’ procurement experience in a Technical / Mechanical Environment.
• At least 5 years’ material handling experience.

• Strong Commercial Orientation and Planning skills with highly organised approach.
• Excellent Negotiation and Communication Skills.
• Advanced Computer Literacy (MS Office Packages and SAP).
• Ability to work independently, show initiative and demonstrate good judgement.
• Good Problem-solving skills.
• Sound financial and technical background.
• Driver`s License is essential.

What We Are Looking For

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The main responsibilities of this Senior Technical Buyer position are to scan, analyze and select of suppliers for goods and services in order to negotiate and conclude multiyear supply contracts for the successful execution of the Business Plan. The Senior Technical Buyer is responsible for the procurement process, sourcing, RFQ’s, price evaluations, cost analysis, negotiations and final procurement selection and qualification of suppliers. The Senior Technical Buyer is also responsible for the finalization of Contracts/SLA's and the management thereof over the contract/SLA period.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

• Negotiate and enter into multiyear cost-effective contracts with major suppliers in conjunction with Executive Manager Procurement and GM Supply Chain
• Determine and ensure availability of strategic suppliers for specific specialised areas
• Achieve cost savings targets on Material, Capex, Non-Stock, Shipping and Services
• Develop Life Cycle Costing Models for applicable Procurement Projects
• Preparing and executing annual cost reduction strategies and Value Engineering Projects
• Conduct regular commodity market research, identify procurement risks and implement risk avoidance strategies
• Implementation of specific Procurement Strategies based on technical & customer requirements
• Procurement Lead during the Strategic Sourcing Process
• Coordinate supplier clarification sessions and technical reviews with cross functional teams and suppliers
• Supplier Risk Assessments, Due Diligence and Performance Management
• BBBEE procurement and support
• Adheres and implements Rheinmetall Denel Munitions Policies and Procedures and ensures compliance to ISO Standards with respect to SHE/Quality/Environmental/Energy

What Qualifications You Should Have

• B Comm. / B Tech degree or equivalent qualification.
• Technical Qualification would be advantageous.
• At least 5 years’ procurement experience with at least 3 years on management level
• At least 5 years’ procurement experience in a Technical / Mechanical Environment
• At least 5 years’ material handling experience
• Project management experience
