Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a well-respected structural engineering consultancy, is expanding its capabilities and seeking a talented Senior Structural Technician to join their fully remote team. This position is crucial for translating complex engineering designs into detailed, constructible drawings and models. You will work closely with structural engineers to produce high-quality technical documentation for a variety of building projects. The ideal candidate is highly proficient in CAD software, possesses excellent attention to detail, and has a solid understanding of structural principles and materials. As a fully remote role, strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously are paramount. Key Responsibilities

• Produce detailed structural drawings, plans, sections, and details using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
• Assist structural engineers in developing design models and calculations.
• Prepare structural specifications and schedules for various building components.
• Coordinate structural drawings with architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans.
• Ensure all drawings adhere to company drafting standards, project specifications, and relevant building codes.
• Review and incorporate design changes and mark-ups from engineers accurately and efficiently.
• Assist in the preparation of tender documents and construction administration support, including RFI responses and site query clarifications (remotely).
• Maintain accurate and organized drawing files and project documentation.
• Collaborate effectively with engineers and other team members in a virtual setting.
• Stay updated with the latest developments in CAD technology and structural drafting practices.

Requirements

• National Diploma or B-Tech in Civil Engineering (Structural focus) or equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience as a Structural Technician, with a proven track record in building structures.
• Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is essential. Experience with 3D modeling is highly valued.
• Good understanding of structural engineering principles, building materials (concrete, steel, masonry), and construction methods.
• Familiarity with South African National Standards (SANS) and building regulations.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in drafting.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective remote collaboration.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
• Previous exposure to projects in Port Elizabeth or the wider Eastern Cape region is beneficial.
