Job summary

SGS Bateman in South Africa is seeking a senior Mechanical/Structural Engineer to lead engineering design for mining and minerals processing projects.

You will develop discipline strategies, produce cost-effective designs, and collaborate with the Drawing Office, suppliers and internal teams to ensure safe, compliant and on-time deliverables. The role requires 6+ years of relevant experience and professional registration.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in engineering design within mining or related industrial plants.
• Experience in piping design and 3D modelling; AutoCAD Plant 3D is a plus.
• Knowledge of project life cycle phases and contract types including international contracts.
• Ability to create and communicate technical specifications and layouts.
• Familiarity with CAE software and plant layout considerations.

Responsibilities

• Develop discipline strategy and design criteria per project requirements.
• Produce cost-effective civil/structural designs and layouts.
• Collaborate with Drawing Office and other departments for timely drawings.
• Monitor changes to scope and budget; ensure approvals and compliance.
• Provide engineering input to suppliers and sub-contractors throughout projects.
