Job summary

Communicate Finance is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of mechanical and structural designs from concept to implementation, delivering robust solutions for heavy engineering projects in mining and industrial sectors.

You will develop 3D models in SolidWorks, produce fabrication drawings, perform calculations and liaise with suppliers, project teams, and clients to ensure on-time delivery and conformance with GD&T and manufacturing standards.

Qualifications

• BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering is required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of mechanical and structural designs from conceptual studies to detailed design and implementation.

• Perform design verification to ensure robust and compliant solutions.
• Manage multiple technical projects and coordinate engineering deliverables to meet deadlines.
• Collaborate with project teams, suppliers, clients and production personnel throughout the design process.
• Review designs and provide guidance on engineering best practices and improvements.
• Resolve technical challenges during manufacture, installation and commissioning.
• Participate in site inspections, surveys and project support as required.

• Lead the development of mechanical and structural designs from conceptual studies through detailed design and implementation


• Produce practical engineering solutions that balance performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability


• Develop detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, engineering calculations, and technical documentation


• Perform engineering assessments and design verification activities to ensure robust and compliant solutions


• Manage multiple technical projects and coordinate engineering deliverables to meet project deadlines


• Collaborate with project teams, suppliers, clients, and production personnel throughout the design process


• Review technical designs and provide guidance on engineering best practices and design improvements


• Resolve technical challenges during manufacturing, installation, and commissioning phases


• Participate in site inspections, surveys, and project support activities when required

Skills & Experience:

• Minimum 10 years' experience in mechanical design engineering


• Experience within heavy engineering, mining, materials handling, industrial equipment, manufacturing, or related sectors


• Strong understanding of structural design principles and mechanical engineering fundamentals


• Proven experience developing equipment, machinery, fabricated structures, and engineered systems


• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and strong working knowledge of AutoCAD


• Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and engineering simulation tools


• Strong knowledge of engineering drawing standards, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing documentation


• Sound understanding of steel and aluminium design, fabrication, welding, and machining processes

Qualification:

• BEng / BSc in Mechanical Engineering
