Job summary

SGS Bateman is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with at least 6 years in engineering design within mining or minerals processing environments. You will produce cost-effective civil/structural and piping designs, review tender scope, and manage design deliverables across the project life cycle.

Collaboration with Drawing Office and suppliers will be essential to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient project execution.

Qualifications

• B.Sc., B.Eng., or B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering and Pr. Eng. eligible within 12–24 months.
• Minimum 6 years in engineering design for mining, minerals processing or related industrial plants.
• Experience in piping design and 3D modelling; familiarity with design standards and codes.
• Knowledge of project life-cycle phases and basic project management methods.
• Ability to create, understand and communicate technical specifications and calculations.

Responsibilities

• Develop a discipline strategy and design criteria to suit project requirements.
• Produce cost-effective civil/structural and piping designs; review tender scope.
• Prepare quantity and man-hour budgets; monitor scope changes and authorise adjustments.
• Coordinate with Drawing Office, suppliers and sub-contractors; provide engineering input.
• Ensure adherence to QA, SHE and quality procedures; participate in audits.
• Support project management through progress reports and timely design deliveries.
• Validate engineering software outputs and ensure appropriate use of tools.
