Job summary

SGS Bateman’s Bateman engineering team in Gauteng requires a Senior Civil/Structural Design Engineer to develop discipline strategies, manage design criteria, and deliver safe, cost-effective plant layouts. You will collaborate across departments, prepare budgets, and ensure project governance from conception to commissioning.

The role demands 8+ years in engineering design and project management within processing or petrochemical environments, with strong knowledge of CAE tools and standards.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in engineering design and project management in processing or petrochemical plant environments.
• Knowledge of project life cycle phases and basic project management methods.
• Experience applying civil/structural design criteria to project requirements; familiarity with software validation.

Responsibilities

• Develop discipline strategy and design criteria tailored to project/client requirements.
• Attend project meetings and produce regular status reports.
• Produce cost‑effective and safe civil/structural designs and tender designs.
• Prepare quantity and man‑hour budgets linked to scope.
• Coordinate with other departments and suppliers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure adherence to QA procedures and engineering standards.
