Placements24 seeks a Lead Sound Designer to craft immersive audio for cutting-edge projects in Port Elizabeth. You will design, implement, and mix soundscapes for interactive installations and VR experiences, collaborating across disciplines to realize the creative vision.

The role requires deep expertise in DAWs, spatial audio, and middleware (Wwise/FMOD). You’ll lead a team, manage libraries, and drive innovative audio solutions in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of professional sound design, focused on interactive media/VR/film.
• Proficiency in DAWs: Pro Tools, Reaper, Nuendo.
• Experience with Wwise or FMOD for audio middleware.
• Strong psychoacoustics and spatial audio knowledge.
• Experience in recording, editing and mixing including Foley/ADR.
• Familiarity with Unity/Unreal Engine audio integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, implementation, and mixing of all audio for immersive projects.
• Create original sound effects, foley, and atmospheric soundscapes.
• Develop and integrate spatial audio (Dolby Atmos, Ambisonics) for VR/interactive experiences.
• Collaborate with designers, directors, and artists to align audio with vision and UX.
• Manage audio middleware integration (Wwise, FMOD) and optimize pipelines.
• Oversee junior designers and external contractors for quality and consistency.
• Maintain and organize extensive sound libraries and assets.
• Stay updated on trends in sound design and immersive audio.
