Capitec Insurance is building a bold Salesforce-based platform to power life, funeral and credit insurance for millions in South Africa. We seek a senior Salesforce developer to own architectural decisions, mentor engineers, and deliver end-to-end solutions across policy management, claims and CRM.
You will drive platform scalability, integrate with external systems, and push best practices in a collaborative, growth-oriented team. Hybrid work with in-office days.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of software development with Salesforce exposure.
- Back-end Java skills plus Salesforce integrations experience.
- Experience delivering end-to-end Salesforce solutions in regulated environments.
- Strong ability to explain technical decisions to diverse stakeholders.
- Experience mentoring junior developers.
Responsibilities
- Lead Salesforce architectural decisions across our Insurance platform
- Build and extend policy lifecycle, claims, and CRM capabilities
- Design and implement integrations across policy administration, claims intake, adjudication and payments
- Build Apex logic, LWC components and Flows for insurance operations
- Ensure scalable platform as Life, Funeral, and Credit Insurance grow
- Mentor developers on the team

Capitec Insurance is making a big move into South Africa's insurance industry, leveraging a client base of 23 million to disrupt a market that has long been complicated, expensive and inaccessible. Only 10% of South Africans have life insurance. We're changing that – building cover that's more affordable, transparent and simple, with an application process that takes less than 10 minutes and requires no medical tests. The technology making that possible needs to be just as bold. That's where you come in. We need a senior Salesforce developer who can take ownership of the platform that powers Funeral Cover, Life Cover and Credit Insurance for millions of South Africans – and help us build what comes next.
You'll work on a platform that manages the full insurance lifecycle – from quote to claim – at scale, for real clients who depend on it.
Specifically, you'll:
- Lead Salesforce architectural decisions across our Insurance platform
- Build and extend capabilities for policy lifecycle management, claims processing and client relationship management
- Design and implement integrations across policy administration, claims intake, adjudication and payment processing
- Build and maintain complex Apex logic, Lightning Web Components and Salesforce Flows that drive our insurance operations
- Ensure our platform scales reliably as our insurance business grows – across Life Cover, Funeral Cover and Credit Insurance
- Mentor junior and intermediate developers on the team
- Drive development standards and engineering best practices within the Salesforce space
- Evaluate and introduce Salesforce capabilities that move our Insurance platform forward
- Salesforce Financial Services Cloud – our insurance platform foundation
- Apex, LWC, Salesforce Flow – how we build and extend the platform
- REST/SOAP APIs, Platform Events, Change Data Capture – how we integrate
- Java – your back-end foundation, directly transferable here
- Salesforce DX & CLI – source-driven development and deployment pipelines
- 6+ years of software development experience, with meaningful Salesforce platform exposure
- Back-end development experience in Java or similar object-oriented languages, considered a strong foundation for Salesforce development
- A track record of designing and delivering complex Salesforce solutions end-to-end
- Experience working in regulated or financial services environments is a strong advantage
- The ability to explain technical decisions clearly – to engineers, architects and business stakeholders
- A genuine interest in growing the engineers around you
- Minimum: Grade 12 National Certificate
- Preferred: A relevant tertiary qualification in information technology
- Required: Salesforce Platform Developer I
- Preferred: Salesforce Platform Developer II, Salesforce Administrator, or Salesforce Financial Services Cloud accreditation
You can apply expert-level knowledge and develop others' understanding across:
- Apex programming – triggers, service classes, batch Apex, queueable Apex and scheduled Apex
- Lightning Web Components – component structure, data connectivity, cross-component communication and Lightning Design System
- Salesforce Flow – record-triggered flows, screen flows, scheduled flows and auto-launched flows
- SOQL and SOSL – efficient querying, governor limit management and multi-object data retrieval
- Insurance-specific data modelling – policies, claims, coverages, participants and financial transactions
- API integration – REST and SOAP services, Named Credentials, OAuth 2.0 and external system authentication
- Apex test class design – unit tests, integration tests and bulk operation tests with meaningful coverage
- IT systems development processes (SDLC) and version control
Our insurance business is still in its early days, with a three-year growth plan and a significant demand pipeline ahead. The architectural decisions you make now will shape how our platform scales. Your work won't sit in a backlog – it'll reach clients directly.
