Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Renewable Energy Electrical Engineer near Soweto to design, implement, and optimize electrical systems for solar and other renewables. You will work on grid-connected and off-grid projects, ensuring safe integration and contributing to sustainable energy development.

The role requires a BEng in Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years of experience, including 3 in renewables, plus strong PV design knowledge and grid code familiarity.

Qualifications

• Qualified with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, focused on power or renewables.
• Minimum 5 years in design/engineering of electrical systems, with at least 3 years in renewables.
• Strong knowledge of PV design principles, components, and performance analysis.
• Familiarity with grid codes, interconnection standards, and energy storage systems.
• Proficiency in electrical design and simulation tools such as PVSyst and ETAP.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical systems for solar PV and other renewable energy installations.
• Perform load flow, protection coordination, and grid interconnection studies for renewable energy projects.
• Specify electrical components such as inverters, transformers, switchgear, and cabling.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical codes, safety standards (e.g., NRS 097), and utility requirements.
• Collaborate with project managers, site engineers, and clients to oversee installation and commissioning.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues related to renewable energy systems during operation and maintenance phases.
