Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a remote Insurance Underwriter in South Africa to assess risks, determine policy terms, and set premiums from a remote location. You will collaborate with brokers, agents, and internal teams nationwide to ensure profitability and controlled exposure.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of underwriting experience, strong analytical and communication skills, and familiarity with underwriting software and MS Office. ACII/AU certifications are advantageous.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive underwriting experience.
• Strong knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and pricing methodologies.
• Experience with various insurance lines (e.g., commercial property, casualty, personal lines).
• Ability to work autonomously and manage workload in a remote setting.

Responsibilities

• Analyze insurance applications and supporting documentation to assess risks accurately.
• Evaluate acceptability of risks based on underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
• Determine policy terms, conditions, and pricing for approved risks.
• Clearly communicate underwriting decisions and rationale to brokers, agents, and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with claims, sales, and product development to ensure seamless operations.
• Monitor portfolio performance and identify trends or issues.
• Stay current with industry changes and market developments.
• Contribute to underwriting policy development and refinement.
• Maintain organized electronic records of underwriting activities.
• Participate in virtual meetings and training to enhance knowledge.
