Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Senior RAN Specialist to design, deploy, and optimize 4G/LTE and 5G RAN systems in Upington. You will lead troubleshooting, capacity planning, and collaboration with core and transport teams to ensure high network performance.

You’ll contribute to documentation, stay current with 5G NR standards, and mentor junior engineers while traveling within the Northern Cape as required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in Radio Access Network (RAN) engineering.
• Strong expertise in 4G/LTE and 5G RAN technologies (e.g., eNodeB, gNB, RAN protocols).
• Proficiency with RAN optimization tools and techniques.
• Experience with RF planning and performance analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and configure RAN equipment, including base stations, antennas, and controllers.
• Optimize RAN performance to ensure high availability, capacity, and quality of service.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex RAN-related issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
• Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for new RAN deployments and upgrades.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for RAN configurations and procedures.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams (core, transport) to ensure seamless network integration.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in RAN technology, including 5G NR features and standards.
• Perform capacity planning and analysis for RAN elements.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and field technicians.
• Monitor network performance and KPIs, reporting on key metrics and trends.
