Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Engineer in Upington, Northern Cape to lead 5G network deployment and ongoing management. You will design and optimize IP networks, oversee RAN and Core deployments, and ensure security and high performance across the region.

Applicants should have 7+ years in telecom networking, strong routing knowledge (BGP/OSPF/EIGRP), and experience with 5G. A hybrid work model is offered along with a competitive package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in telecommunications network engineering with focus on IP networking and wireless technologies.
• Proven experience with 5G network architecture, deployment, and optimization.
• In-depth knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) and MPLS.
• Experience with network monitoring and analysis tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds).
• Familiarity with network security principles and firewalls.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain complex IP networks, including routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and switching technologies.
• Oversee deployment, configuration, and integration of 5G RAN and Core network elements.
• Monitor network performance, identify bottlenecks, and optimize for high availability and low latency.
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans for new network equipment and software upgrades.
• Provide expert-level troubleshooting and support for network incidents and outages.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including field operations and customer support.
• Contribute to network capacity planning and future technology roadmaps.
• Ensure network security best practices are implemented and maintained.
