Minimum Requirements
- Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
- Minimum 8 years’ Quantity Surveying experience.
- At least 5 years’ experience within mining, heavy industrial, mineral processing, EPCM or large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Strong experience in contract administration and commercial management.
- Proven experience in cost control, budgeting, forecasting and project reporting.
- Strong experience preparing, reviewing and managing Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Experience conducting quantity take-offs and preparing detailed cost estimates.
- Experience evaluating contractor claims, variations and payment certificates.
- Sound understanding of FIDIC, NEC and other standard forms of contract.
- Proficiency in industry-standard quantity surveying and cost management software.
- Experience with project budgets, cash flows and cost forecasts.
- Ability to work independently within a remote mining environment.
- Valid passport and willingness to travel and work in Zimbabwe.
- Professional registration with SACQSP or an equivalent professional body will be advantageous.
Roles & Responsibilities
Quantity Surveying & Cost Management
- Manage all quantity surveying and commercial activities across mining and capital projects.
- Prepare, review and manage Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
- Develop and maintain project budgets and cost plans.
- Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
- Identify cost variances, commercial risks and potential cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain accurate cost information throughout the project lifecycle.
Commercial & Contract Administration
- Administer project contracts and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
- Review and assess contractor claims, variations and payment certificates.
- Monitor contractual requirements, deliverables and commercial milestones.
- Assist with contract negotiations and the resolution of commercial issues.
- Ensure appropriate contractual documentation and records are maintained.
- Manage final accounts and project commercial close-out.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting
- Develop and maintain project cash flows, budgets and cost forecasts.
- Monitor project expenditure and identify potential cost overruns.
- Prepare monthly commercial, cost and financial reports for management.
- Provide accurate forecasts and commercial updates throughout the project lifecycle.
- Analyse project costs and provide recommendations to improve commercial performance.
- Track commitments, expenditure, variations and forecast final costs.
Procurement & Tender Management
- Assist with procurement activities for mining and capital projects.
- Prepare and review tender documentation and Bills of Quantities.
- Assist with tender evaluations and commercial assessments.
- Evaluate contractor and supplier pricing.
- Assist with contract negotiations and commercial recommendations.
- Ensure procurement activities align with approved project budgets and commercial objectives.
Contractor & Claims Management
- Review contractor submissions, claims and supporting documentation.
- Assess variations and determine their commercial impact.
- Review and certify payment applications and payment certificates.
- Monitor contractor performance against contractual and commercial requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of claims, variations and contractual correspondence.
- Assist with resolving commercial and contractual disputes where required.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, contractors, consultants and client representatives.
- Provide commercial and quantity surveying input throughout the project lifecycle.
- Attend project, commercial and contractor meetings.
- Provide guidance on commercial implications of project decisions and changes.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
- Identify and communicate commercial risks that may impact project delivery.
Mining & Site-Based Project Support
- Provide quantity surveying and commercial support across mining and infrastructure projects.
- Monitor commercial performance of site-based construction and mining activities.
- Support projects involving mining infrastructure, concentrators, process plants, shafts, tailings facilities, bulk earthworks and related heavy industrial works.
- Conduct site-based assessments and verify quantities, progress and completed work where required.
- Work effectively within a remote mining environment and rotational site structure.
Project Close-Out & Final Accounts
- Manage final accounts and commercial close-out activities.
- Reconcile project expenditure, variations, claims and outstanding commitments.
- Ensure all commercial documentation is finalised and properly maintained.
- Assist with project handover and contractual close-out.
- Identify lessons learned and commercial improvements for future projects.
