Marvel Placement Consultants is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial and cost-management activities on platinum mining projects based at a Zimbabwe site. The role requires experience in mining, heavy industrial or EPCM projects and involves cost control, budgeting, forecasting and contract administration.

The candidate should be able to operate in a remote mining environment and travel as required, with relocation or rotational work arrangements to SA.

Formación

  • Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
  • Minimum 8 years’ Quantity Surveying experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience in mining, heavy industrial or large-scale infra projects.
  • Strong experience in contract administration and commercial management.
  • Experience with BOQs, cost estimates and cost control.

Senior Quantity Surveyor – Platinum Mining Projects

Our client, a well-established platinum mining operation based in Zimbabwe, is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their project team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing quantity surveying and commercial functions across mining, capital and infrastructure projects, including cost control, contract administration, budgeting, forecasting, contractor claims and commercial reporting.
The position requires an experienced quantity surveying professional with strong mining, heavy industrial, mineral processing, EPCM or large-scale infrastructure experience. The successful candidate will be required to work at the mine site in Zimbabwe, either through relocation or a rotational arrangement of approximately 6 weeks on site followed by 2 weeks in South Africa.

  • Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
  • Minimum 8 years’ Quantity Surveying experience.
  • At least 5 years’ experience within mining, heavy industrial, mineral processing, EPCM or large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong experience in contract administration and commercial management.
  • Proven experience in cost control, budgeting, forecasting and project reporting.
  • Strong experience preparing, reviewing and managing Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
  • Experience conducting quantity take-offs and preparing detailed cost estimates.
  • Experience evaluating contractor claims, variations and payment certificates.?
  • Sound understanding of FIDIC, NEC and other standard forms of contract.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard quantity surveying and cost management software.
  • Experience with project budgets, cash flows and cost forecasts.
  • Ability to work independently within a remote mining environment.
  • Valid passport and willingness to travel and work in Zimbabwe.
  • Professional registration with SACQSP or an equivalent professional body will be advantageous.

Roles & Responsibilities
Quantity Surveying & Cost Management
  • Manage all quantity surveying and commercial activities across mining and capital projects.
  • Prepare, review and manage Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
  • Conduct detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets and cost plans.
  • Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Identify cost variances, commercial risks and potential cost-saving opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate cost information throughout the project lifecycle.
Commercial & Contract Administration
  • Administer project contracts and ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
  • Review and assess contractor claims, variations and payment certificates.
  • Monitor contractual requirements, deliverables and commercial milestones.
  • Assist with contract negotiations and the resolution of commercial issues.
  • Ensure appropriate contractual documentation and records are maintained.
  • Manage final accounts and project commercial close-out.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Reporting
  • Develop and maintain project cash flows, budgets and cost forecasts.
  • Monitor project expenditure and identify potential cost overruns.
  • Prepare monthly commercial, cost and financial reports for management.?
  • Provide accurate forecasts and commercial updates throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Analyse project costs and provide recommendations to improve commercial performance.
  • Track commitments, expenditure, variations and forecast final costs.
Procurement & Tender Management
  • Assist with procurement activities for mining and capital projects.
  • Prepare and review tender documentation and Bills of Quantities.
  • Assist with tender evaluations and commercial assessments.
  • Evaluate contractor and supplier pricing.
  • Assist with contract negotiations and commercial recommendations.
  • Ensure procurement activities align with approved project budgets and commercial objectives.
Contractor & Claims Management
  • Review contractor submissions, claims and supporting documentation.
  • Assess variations and determine their commercial impact.
  • Review and certify payment applications and payment certificates.
  • Monitor contractor performance against contractual and commercial requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of claims, variations and contractual correspondence.
  • Assist with resolving commercial and contractual disputes where required.
Project & Stakeholder Coordination
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, contractors, consultants and client representatives.
  • Provide commercial and quantity surveying input throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Attend project, commercial and contractor meetings.
  • Provide guidance on commercial implications of project decisions and changes.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
  • Identify and communicate commercial risks that may impact project delivery.
Mining & Site-Based Project Support
  • Provide quantity surveying and commercial support across mining and infrastructure projects.
  • Monitor commercial performance of site-based construction and mining activities.
  • Support projects involving mining infrastructure, concentrators, process plants, shafts, tailings facilities, bulk earthworks and related heavy industrial works.
  • Conduct site-based assessments and verify quantities, progress and completed work where required.
  • Work effectively within a remote mining environment and rotational site structure.
Project Close-Out & Final Accounts
  • Manage final accounts and commercial close-out activities.
  • Reconcile project expenditure, variations, claims and outstanding commitments.
  • Ensure all commercial documentation is finalised and properly maintained.
  • Assist with project handover and contractual close-out.
  • Identify lessons learned and commercial improvements for future projects.
