About the Role

Our client, a prominent mining corporation, is seeking an experienced and results-driven Senior Project Manager to oversee critical operational improvement projects at their facilities in the Mahikeng, North West province. This role is essential for enhancing efficiency, safety, and productivity across their mining operations. You will be responsible for managing projects related to process optimization, technology implementation, safety upgrades, and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mining engineering or a related technical field, coupled with extensive project management experience in the mining sector. A deep understanding of underground and surface mining operations, coupled with a commitment to best practices, is crucial. This is a high-impact role within a significant player in the South African mining industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end management of operational improvement projects within the mining sector, from concept and planning to execution and closure.
• Develop detailed project plans, including scope definition, work breakdown structures, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
• Oversee project execution, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality control measures specific to mining operations.
• Manage project risks, identifying potential hazards and developing robust mitigation strategies to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
• Collaborate closely with mine managers, engineers, geologists, and operational teams to define project requirements and ensure alignment.
• Manage relationships with external contractors, suppliers, and consultants involved in project delivery.
• Monitor project progress and performance, providing regular status reports and recommendations to senior management.
• Ensure project deliverables contribute to tangible improvements in operational efficiency, cost reduction, and safety performance.
• Champion a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and innovation within project teams and operations.

Requirements

• A Master's degree or MBA is a significant advantage.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years specifically within the mining industry (underground or surface).
• Proven experience managing projects related to operational efficiency, process optimization, or technology implementation in a mining environment.
• Strong understanding of mining processes, equipment, safety protocols (e.g., MHSA), and environmental regulations.
• Professional registration with ECSA or a similar recognized body is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and relevant mining software.
• Exceptional leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, with experience working in the North West province.
• Ability to reside or work extensively in the Mahikeng area.
