About the Role

Our client, a leading mining conglomerate, is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Project Manager to spearhead critical operational improvement and technology integration projects. This essential role is based at one of our major operations in Rustenburg, North West , and requires a dedicated on-site presence. You will be responsible for managing complex projects that enhance efficiency, safety, and productivity across our mining sites. This includes the implementation of new technologies, optimization of existing processes, and managing capital expenditure projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mining operations or engineering, coupled with a proven track record in delivering significant projects within the demanding mining sector. You will work closely with site leadership, technical teams, and external vendors to achieve project goals. Key Responsibilities

Lead the planning, execution, and successful delivery of complex mining operational and technology projects. Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, objectives, timelines, budgets, resource requirements, and risk assessments. Manage project teams, including engineers, geologists, IT specialists, and external contractors. Oversee the implementation of new mining technologies, automation solutions, and operational improvements. Ensure all projects comply with stringent safety, environmental, and regulatory standards specific to the mining industry. Manage project budgets, track expenditures, and ensure cost-effective project delivery. Identify, analyze, and mitigate project risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle. Collaborate closely with site management, department heads, and stakeholders to ensure alignment and buy-in. Monitor project performance, prepare detailed progress reports, and communicate updates effectively to senior leadership. Facilitate knowledge transfer and champion best practices in project management and operational excellence.

Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. A Master's degree or MBA is highly preferred. A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the mining industry, with at least 6 years in project management roles overseeing operational or technological projects. Demonstrated experience managing projects in the North West province or similar mining environments. Strong understanding of mining processes, equipment, safety protocols, and relevant South African legislation. Proven experience with project management methodologies and tools (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, MS Project, Primavera P6). Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships within a demanding operational setting. Experience with change management and driving the adoption of new technologies. Must be willing to work on-site in Rustenburg and potentially travel to other mining locations.
