This is a hands-on, executive‑level role that drives delivery from conception through to completion, coordinating multi‑disciplinary teams and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Engineering, PM, MBA, or related field.
• At least 12 years of progressive project/programme management experience in energy or infrastructure.
• Proven track record of managing multi-million Rand programmes and leading diverse teams.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, is seeking an accomplished Senior Programme Manager to oversee a critical portfolio of energy infrastructure projects based in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape . This strategic role involves managing multiple concurrent programmes, ensuring their successful delivery from conception through to completion. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in managing large-scale energy or infrastructure developments, a deep understanding of the South African energy landscape, and exceptional leadership qualities. This position requires a hands‑on approach and a commitment to driving sustainable energy solutions within the region. You will be integral in shaping the future of energy in Port Elizabeth and contributing to national energy goals.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement strategic programme plans for a portfolio of energy projects, aligning with organizational objectives.
• Lead, mentor, and manage multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring efficient resource allocation and optimal performance.
• Oversee the entire programme lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, control, and closure.
• Manage programme budgets, forecasts, and financial performance, ensuring adherence to financial targets.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate programme-level risks and issues, implementing proactive solutions.
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration among project stakeholders, including government agencies, community leaders, and industry partners.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, safety, and regulatory standards in the Eastern Cape .
• Manage contracts and negotiations with key suppliers and service providers.
• Conduct regular programme reviews and provide comprehensive reports to senior management.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the programme management office.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Engineering, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in project and programme management, with a significant focus on the energy sector (renewables, power generation, distribution).
• Demonstrated success in managing complex, multi‑million Rand programmes.
• In-depth knowledge of the South African energy market, regulatory framework, and key stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of various project management methodologies and best practices.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills.
• Proficiency in programme and project management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).
• Proven ability to manage risks, resolve conflicts, and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Experience working within or closely with government entities and regulatory bodies.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to travel across the Eastern Cape and surrounding areas.
