Placements24 seeks a Senior Production Engineer for a leading automotive components manufacturer in Johannesburg. You will oversee and optimize manufacturing processes, drive efficiency, and champion lean initiatives across cross-functional teams including R&D, quality assurance, and supply chain management.

The role demands a strong track record managing production lines, improving operational performance, and mentoring technicians and engineers in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering; Master's degree advantageous.
• 8+ years of progressive manufacturing engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a senior or supervisory role.
• Proven expertise in automotive component manufacturing processes ( stamping, molding, assembly ).
• In-depth knowledge of lean principles and tools (Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S) and quality systems (ISO/TS 16949).

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain advanced manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
• Oversee the full production lifecycle from raw materials to finished product with strict quality control.
• Lead and mentor production technicians and junior engineers to foster continuous improvement.
• Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions and optimization.
• Collaborate with R&D on new product introductions ensuring manufacturability and scalability.
• Manage equipment maintenance schedules and troubleshoot downtime to minimize impact.
• Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations in manufacturing.
• Develop and manage production budgets and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Prepare detailed reports on production performance, quality metrics, and project status for senior management.
• Implement lean manufacturing methods such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, and 5S.
