Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Process Safety Engineer for a major chemical facility in Upington. You will lead hazard analyses (HAZOP/LOPA/SIL), implement robust PSM systems, and guide incident investigations, MOC, and safety training to ensure regulatory compliance and best-in-class safety performance.

The role requires a strong leadership presence to mentor junior engineers and collaborate with operations to embed a culture of continuous safety improvement across all site activities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline required.
• 8+ years of progressive process safety experience in chemical/petrochemical environments.
• Strong understanding of international process safety standards and regulations.
• Proven leadership in PHA studies and risk reduction implementations.
• Expertise in hazardous area classifications, explosion protection and emergency preparedness.
• Demonstrated ability to influence safety culture through leadership and communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA, SIL) for processes.
• Develop, implement and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems.
• Oversee incident investigations and root cause analyses and CAPA.
• Provide expert guidance on process safety principles and risk management.
• Develop and conduct advanced process safety training for site personnel.
• Manage the Management of Change (MOC) process.
