Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer for its Upington-based upstream facilities team. The role blends hands-on risk assessment with the development and implementation of safety management systems, focusing on preventing major incidents and protecting people and assets.

The ideal candidate will have 8+ years in process safety within Oil & Gas or petrochemicals, with expertise in HAZOP/LOPA, QRAs, and IEC 61511/API/OSHA PSM, and be comfortable with a hybrid work arrangement in

Qualifications

Experience leading PHAs (HAZOP, LOPA) and QRAs.
Strong knowledge of IEC 61511, API, OSHA PSM standards.
Experience with PHAST or ALOHA software.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and risk management skills.
Strong communication, influencing and leadership capabilities.
Ability to work in hybrid environment with site visits.

Responsibilities

Lead and facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) systems and procedures.
Conduct safety integrity level (SIL) assessments and specify safety instrumented systems (SIS).
Perform consequence modeling and quantitative risk assessments (QRAs).
Review facility designs and modifications to ensure compliance with process safety standards.
Investigate process safety incidents and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Develop and deliver process safety training programs to relevant personnel.
Audit compliance with company and regulatory process safety requirements.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for process safety and report on performance.
Provide expert advice on process safety matters to engineering, operations, and management teams.
