Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Optimization Engineer for a major mining operation in Rustenburg, North West. You will analyze operations to identify bottlenecks and implement data-driven solutions to improve yield, throughputs and cost, while driving sustainability.

You will lead optimization initiatives, develop SOPs, and mentor junior engineers, ensuring best practices in process control and KPI monitoring.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in process engineering with a strong focus on optimization.
• Proven track record in improving the efficiency and performance of industrial processes.
• Proficiency in statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP) and process simulation software.
• Experience with data analysis, modeling, and root cause analysis techniques.
• Strong understanding of chemical unit operations and process control.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Experience in the mining or heavy industrial sector is highly desirable.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Analyze operational data to identify areas for process improvement and efficiency gains.
• Develop and implement strategies to optimize chemical processes, focusing on yield, throughput, and cost reduction.
• Utilize statistical analysis and modeling techniques to understand process variability and control.
• Design and execute plant trials to test and validate optimization initiatives.
• Collaborate with plant engineers and operators to implement process changes.
• Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) for optimized processes.
• Monitor process performance against KPIs and report on trends.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and provide technical solutions.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and methodologies in process optimization.
• Mentor junior engineers in process analysis and optimization techniques.
