Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Lead Chemical Engineer in Gauteng to spearhead process optimization at a major chemical manufacturing site in Tembisa. You will lead design, scale-up, and troubleshooting efforts, deploying simulations to drive yield improvements and cost reductions while upholding safety and environmental standards.

The role demands 8+ years of experience, a Master’s in Chemical Engineering, and strong leadership capabilities to mentor engineers and collaborate with R&D, operations, and QA

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive chemical process engineering experience focusing on optimization and scale-up.
• Proven ability to lead projects and manage cross-functional teams.
• Experience with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and data analysis tools.
• In-depth knowledge of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and mass transfer.
• Strong knowledge of process safety management (PSM) and HAZOP studies.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication and leadership skills.
• Experience with Lean/Six Sigma or continuous improvement is a plus.
• Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, analysis, and implementation of process improvements for chemical systems.
• Manage projects related to process scale-up, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Use advanced simulation/modeling tools to predict process behavior and identify optimization opportunities.
• Conduct PHAs and implement robust safety protocols.
• Oversee development and validation of new process technologies and equipment.
• Train and mentor junior engineers and technicians on best practices.
• Collaborate with R&D, operations, and quality to ensure smooth integration of changes.
• Monitor KPIs and drive corrective actions as needed.
• Stay updated on industry trends, technologies and regulatory requirements.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations for senior management.
