Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Engineer to join a fully remote team in South Africa. You will lead design, development, and optimization of chemical processes, ensuring safety, efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

The role requires deep expertise in process simulation (Aspen Plus, HYSYS), reactor engineering, and scale-up from lab to production. Strong remote collaboration and project leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering is required.
• 8+ years of progressive process engineering experience.
• Proficient in Aspen Plus and HYSYS process simulation.
• Strong knowledge of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and mass transfer.
• Experience with HAZOP and process safety management.
• Ability to manage complex remote projects independently.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes, ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance.
• Utilize process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS) to model, analyze, and improve existing and new processes.
• Conduct feasibility studies and technical reviews for new process technologies and plant modifications.
• Develop PFDs and P&IDs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues and provide technical guidance to teams.
• Oversee process scale-up from lab to pilot plant and production.
• Ensure designs meet safety and regulatory standards (HAZOP).
• Collaborate with R&D, operations, and engineering to drive project success.
• Stay updated with advancements in chemical engineering and process tech.
• Mentor junior engineers in the remote team.
