Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Engineer specializing in refining operations to optimize plant performance at the Pretoria site. You will troubleshoot complex process issues, implement enhancements, and contribute to major projects while ensuring safe, reliable operation.

The role requires a chemical engineering degree, 7+ years in refining, and hands-on knowledge of distillation, cracking, reforming, and hydrotreating. Proficiency in HYSYS/Aspen Plus is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in process engineering in refining or petrochemicals.
• Strong knowledge of unit operations (distillation, cracking, reforming, hydrotreating).
• Experience with PSM and risk assessment; process safety mindset.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize refining processes to maximize yield and reduce energy use.
• Troubleshoot process upsets, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Develop and implement process improvements, debottlenecking, and new tech integration.
• Conduct process safety reviews (HAZOP) and ensure compliance with safety regs.
• Prepare process design packages, P&IDs, and equipment specs.
• Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, and projects teams.
