Job summary

Placements24, based in Sandton, seeks a Senior Process Engineer with a strong Oil & Gas background to design, optimize and troubleshoot process systems. The role focuses on creating PFDs/P&IDs, running simulations, and ensuring safe, efficient operation.

The candidate should have a Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering, 7+ years of relevant experience, and knowledge of API/ASME standards. SA work authorization is required; there are opportunities for professional growth and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 7+ years of process engineering experience in Oil & Gas.
• Experience with process simulation software (HYSYS, Aspen Plus) and P&ID development.
• Strong understanding of hydrocarbon processing, separation technologies, and thermodynamics.
• Familiarity with API, ASME and environmental regulations.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; team player.
• Experience troubleshooting processing plants.
• Must hold valid work authorization for South Africa.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop PFDs and P&IDs for new and existing facilities.
• Perform process simulations to optimize operations and troubleshoot issues.
• Specify process equipment (pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, separators).
• Conduct PHAs, HAZOPs, and safety reviews.
• Develop strategies for debottlenecking and efficiency improvements.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with project management, operations and maintenance teams.
• Provide technical support to junior engineers and plant personnel.
• Evaluate new technologies for process improvement and cost reduction.
• Contribute to feasibility studies and conceptual design for new projects.
