Job summary

Rheinmetall Western Cape seeks an experienced Senior Process Engineer to design, optimize, and support bespoke process equipment for reliability, safety and throughput. You will lead mechanical activities across design, procurement, installation, commissioning and handover while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications include a BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering and about 5 years in design/manufacturing or industrial plant settings.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• Approximately 5 years in design, manufacturing, or industrial plant environments.
• Familiarity with industry standards (ASME, API, ISO, SANS, SABS) related to mechanical/process equipment.
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks/SolidEdge/AutoCAD).

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical and process data analysis, root cause investigations, and implement improvements to enhance plant efficiency, reliability, and productivity.
• Design, and specify process/mechanical equipment (pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, vessels, piping systems, utilities, tooling, machinery, automation) according to project and industry standards.
• Prepare and update engineering documentation such as mechanical drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment datasheets, and material specifications.
• Lead and coordinate mechanical engineering activities across all project stages: design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and handover.
• Manage contractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance with technical specs, quality standards, schedules, and budget requirements.
• Participate in HAZOP studies, risk assessments, design reviews, and safety audits.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and energy use, optimize plant performance.
• Support Process Safety Management (PSM) compliance and safety audits.
• Mentor teammates and share best practices in mechanical design and process engineering.
