Job summary

thyssenkrupp Uhde South Africa seeks an experienced Senior C&I Engineer to join the C&I Engineering Department. You will interact with clients as part of the owner’s team, take a lead role on projects, and drive PFD/P&ID reviews, SIL activities, and control system design across all project phases from feasibility to commissioning.

You must hold a BSc/BEng in Electrical or Electronic Engineering with extensive contracting experience in energy/chemical sectors, and be registered with ECSA.

Your responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior C&I Engineer with relevant design house experience to join the C&I Engineering Department.

The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the following job description but not limited to:

• Interaction with the client and forming part of an owner’s team with the client
• Performing lead engineer role.
• Lead or participate in PFD and P&ID Reviews, HAZOP reviews, 3D model and constructability reviews
• Lead SIL Reviews
• Perform manpower planning and project schedule management for the project process team
• Preparation of Scope of Work / Works Information for supply of services and management of consultants to deliver to scope, quality and schedule.
• Execute projects within schedule and budget
• Develop the control system design for the project including control narratives and supporting documents for the control and shutdown systems.
• DCS and ESD and SCADA functional design
• Development of SIL documentation. SIL verification and functional safety design.
• Development of complex control narratives
• Instrument selection (including technology selection) and specifications
• Develop documentation for the field instrumentation design including data sheets, wiring and loop drawings and bill of quantities

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to work in a projects based environment covering all phases of project execution (feasibility, concept, basic, detail, construction support and commissioning).

The individual will engage in C&I design activities related to producing and checking C&I engineering deliverables.

The scope of this role will require the incumbent to function in a resource and/ or lead role on projects.

As a project process engineer, the individual will be responsible for C&I deliverables and quality on the project.

Your profile

• The successful candidate must be in possession of a BSc./ B.Eng. Electrical/ Electronic Engineering degree with 12-15 years engineering experience of which 8 years should be in a contracting environment working on projects in the energy and chemical/ refining / petrochemical industries.
• Lead Engineer Experience
• Professional Registration with ECSA is required.
• The successful candidate must have successfully performed in the position of lead engineer on at least 3 large projects in the basic and detail engineering phase. The candidate must have participated in commissioning and plant start-up.
