Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Process Design Engineer to contribute to their projects in Vereeniging. This hybrid role involves leading the conceptual and detailed design of chemical processes, balancing remote engineering tasks with essential on-site project coordination and review. You will be responsible for developing process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications for various chemical plants. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical background, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a track record of successfully delivering complex process design solutions within project timelines and budget constraints.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of process designs from conceptualization through to detailed engineering.
• Prepare PFDs, P&IDs, mass and energy balances, and equipment data sheets.
• Perform process simulations and calculations to ensure designs are efficient and safe.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, I&C) to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Review vendor documentation and provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 8+ years of experience in process design engineering, particularly in the chemical or petrochemical industry.
• Extensive experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools.
• In-depth knowledge of unit operations, equipment selection, and process control strategies.
• Proven ability to manage design projects and mentor junior engineers.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills for effective hybrid work.
