Placements24 seeks a Senior Principal Power Systems Engineer for Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, ZA. This hybrid role blends in-office collaboration with remote flexibility to design, analyze, and optimize power systems for major infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate brings 10–12 years of hands-on experience in power engineering, with expertise in PSS/E/ETAP/PowerFactory, and a track record in grid integration and protection schemes. Leadership and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Power Engineering or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10-12 years of hands-on experience in power systems engineering.
• Expertise in power system modeling and simulation software (PSS/E, ETAP, PowerFactory).
• In-depth knowledge of power system protection, control, and stability.
• Experience with renewable energy integration (solar, wind) and energy storage systems.
• Strong understanding of grid codes and regulatory frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and experience mentoring technical teams.
• Proficiency in technical writing and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and analysis of large-scale power generation, transmission, and distribution systems.
• Perform advanced power flow, short circuit, and transient stability studies using specialized software.
• Develop and implement protection schemes and coordinate protective relays for complex networks.
• Evaluate and recommend technologies for grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and energy storage solutions.
• Ensure compliance with national and international electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of engineers and technical staff.
• Develop project proposals, technical reports, and cost estimates.
• Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
• Troubleshoot and resolve high-level technical issues related to power system performance.
