Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Senior Electrical Design Engineer specializing in Power Systems for a fully remote opportunity across South Africa. You will lead designs for generation, distribution, and transmission projects with virtual collaboration and minimal on-site requirements.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in power system analysis, protection, and industry standards, plus strong self-management skills for remote work and timely project delivery.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems specialization.
• Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in electrical power system design and analysis.
• Proficiency with industry-standard power system analysis software (PSS/E, ETAP, PowerFactory DIgSILENT).
• Strong understanding of protection principles and relaying schemes.
• Experience with grid interconnection studies and renewable energy integration is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of electrical power systems including substations, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
• Perform power system studies such as load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and protection coordination.
• Specify and select electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays).
• Develop detailed schematics, single-line diagrams, grounding plans, and control logic.
• Prepare technical specs, design reports, and BOMs.
• Collaborate with clients and project teams in a virtual setting.
• Ensure designs meet IEEE/IEC/SANS standards and project requirements.
• Mentor junior engineers during the design process.
• Support site teams with remote troubleshooting during commissioning and operation.
• Stay current with power system technology and grid modernization.
