Job summary

Placements24 in Soweto, Gauteng, seeks an Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Quality and Protection to maintain stability and safety of the regional grid. This on-site role requires analysing disturbances, designing protection schemes, and conducting system studies to ensure reliable operation.

The ideal candidate has a B.Eng or B.Sc in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years in power systems, proficiency with ETAP, PSS/ADEPT or DigSilent, and ECSA Pr.Eng or Pr.TechEng preferred.

Qualifications

• B.Eng or B.Sc in Electrical Engineering required.
• Minimum 5 years of power systems experience focusing on power quality and protection.
• Experience in power system analysis and simulation software.
• Knowledge of SANS/IEC/IEEE standards for power quality and protection.
• ECSA registration as Pr.Eng or Pr.TechEng preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and diagnose power quality issues such as harmonics and sags.
• Design, implement, and maintain protection schemes for distribution systems.
• Perform load flow, short-circuit, arc flash, and stability studies.
• Use monitoring equipment and software to identify disturbances.
• Develop recommendations to mitigate power quality problems.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to address issues.
• Assist in specifying protection equipment and mitigation devices.
• Prepare technical reports and recommendations.
• Contribute to updating protection and power quality guidelines.
