Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of experience in power system protection engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of protection principles, relaying schemes, and fault calculations.
• Experience with power system simulation and analysis software.
• Familiarity with various types of protective relays and their applications.
• Understanding of substation design and equipment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.

Responsibilities

• Design and apply protection schemes for transmission and distribution systems, including substations and power plants.
• Select, configure, and test protective relays (e.g., SEL, GE, ABB).
• Perform fault analysis and system studies using specialized software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP).
• Develop and maintain protection system settings and documentation.
• Conduct commissioning and in-service testing of protection systems.
• Investigate and analyze system disturbances and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with national and international power system protection standards.
• Collaborate with design engineers and field personnel on protection system aspects of new projects.
• Provide technical expertise and support for protection system maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Stay updated on new technologies and best practices in power system protection.
